Before brewing your next morning cup of coffee, you may want to double-check the can it came from. More than 100 brands of canned coffee were just voluntarily recalled due to the risk of the deadly botulinum toxin.

Snapchill, LLC, based in Green Bay, Wis. voluntarily issued the recall after the Food and Drug Administration notified the company that the low-acid canned foods manufacturing process it uses had not been properly filed with the FDA, as required by regulation. The current process the company uses to manufacture its coffee products could lead to the growth of botulinum in low-acid canned foods. Growth of botulinum can cause botulism, a severe, potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

No illnesses have been reported and the company is not aware of any of the recalled products containing botulinum toxin. You'll be able to identify if your canned coffee is a recalled product by checking for the following language on the can: "Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC." Some of the coffee brands affected include Big Mouth Coffee, Cape Cod Coffee, Five & Hoek, New Hampshire Coffee Roasters, and Wild Goose Coffee.

Snapchill, LLC is urging consumers who have one of the recalled coffee products to either dispose of the product immediately or return the product to Snapchill or the retailer you purchased it from for a full refund. You can also request a refund by sending Snapchill proof of purchase of the product alongside a photo of the product being disposed of.
