Turn a Paper Organizer Into a Game-Night Staple With This DIY Project

This project keeps all of your favorite games in one convenient spot.

If you enjoy having people over for game night, this DIY project offers a convenient way to play the classics, like tic-tac-toe and checkers.

To make it, we used an old wooden organizer with drawers and transformed it into an entertaining staple. We painted the base of each drawer to resemble the design of some of our favorite games. For example, we added nine squares for tic-tac-toe and 64 squares for checkers.

Not only does this provide a unique approach to game night, but it also keeps all of the game pieces organized, so you never risk losing a key player again.

What You'll Need

Equipment / Tools

  • Painter's tape
  • Paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Wood glue

Materials

  • Wooden paper organizer
  • Game boards and pieces

Instructions

  1. Paint each drawer:

    Apply painter's tape around the edges of each drawer. Paint the base of each drawer a color of your choosing. Note that dark paint is best, so the details of each game stand out.

  2. Add details for each game:

    Tic-tac-toe

    Paint the details for each game on its corresponding drawer. For example, in this drawer, we painted nine white boxes for tic-tac-toe.

  3. Add game boards:

    If the games you want to play require a board, apply wood glue to the bottom and place it in the center of its corresponding drawer. For example, in this drawer, we added the board for Chinese checkers.

  4. Add game pieces and return drawers to slots:

    Once the paint and glue have dried, place the necessary game pieces in their corresponding drawers and return the drawers to their designated slots.
