Mothers are loved all year round, but Mother's Day is the perfect opportunity to tell her just how much she is appreciated. So, how do we show our gratitude? It could be any number of ways: Breakfast in bed, a family brunch, a uniquely chosen gift, flowers, and chocolate are all ideas that you've probably checked off from the list several times over.

If you'd like to make this Mother's Day extra special, consider a handmade gift or a gathering with decorations galore: bouquets, balloons, and banners that spell out her name in big, bright lettering. Turn back the clock to your early school days when you crafted a card for your mom out of colorful construction paper, made that charming picture collage of your special moments with Mom, or presented her with a special molding of your little hand that she still has to this day.

To spark that creativity yet again, here are some decorative ideas to make this upcoming Mother's Day oh-so memorable.

Keepsake Boxes

For a beautiful way to store trinkets or jewelry, make a truly unique keepsake box by pressing colorful flowers onto wooden boxes. Press her favorite flowers, then choose ones that naturally lay flat, like pansies. To make, pick up each flower one at a time, dab a bit of glue on its spot on the box, and press the flower in, brushing it with glue from the center on out. Finish with several all-over protective coats of glue.

If mom loves carnations, make her these sweet little carnation cones. You can create a beautiful bouquet by printing out the below cone clip-art onto heavyweight paper, cutting it out, folding it into a cone shape, and fastening it at the tabs using double-sided tape. Finish the cone off by binding the stem of the carnation with floral tape and setting it inside the cone.

Paint the découpage finish onto the back of a cut-out, paste it onto the tray, and give the whole tray a coat for durability. Arrange it with her favorite morning treat, a cup of tea, and a card that says "I love you," and she'll treasure her accessory for years to come.

Flower Vase Lid

Moms love receiving flowers just as much as we love giving them, but almost as important as the flowers themselves is how they are arranged. Up the ante with this eye-catching flower vase lid. The lid makes arranging flowers simple and easy (just drop the individual stems into the drilled holes) and offers great support for blooms that tend to droop after a few days.

To make, use an inexpensive brass or copper disk and clamp it to a piece of wood. With a handheld drill and a spade bit, drill holes in the disk in any pattern you like. Then set the disk atop a glass or vase and arrange your flowers expertly.
