The Guinness Book of Records Named This 26-Year-Old Cat the Oldest Feline in the World—but She Still Has the Personality of a Kitten

Say hello to Flossie! Just ahead of her 27th birthday, the British cat was named the oldest living feline in the world by the Guinness Book of Records. To be exact, Flossie earned this title at 26 years and 329 days of age, which is about 120 years in human years, People reports. The oldest cat in history, however, was crowned 15 years ago—Crème Puff lived to be 38 years and three days old in 2005.

Flossie's owner, Vicki Green, couldn't have been happier to find out about the record-breaking news. "I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I didn't imagine I'd share my home with a world record holder," she said in a statement.

Although Flossie is deaf and has declining eyesight, she looks incredibly youthful (no gray hairs!) for her age, notes Green—plus, she has the personality of a kitten. She is still playful, curious, and adaptive to her surroundings, something Green accredits to her early life (Flossie was formerly a stray).

Green, who adopted Flossie in her more mature years, hopes her story will inspire others to do the same by welcoming senior cats in their homes. "I've always wanted to give older cats a comfortable later life," she said.
