Pantone Just Announced Its 2024 Color of the Year—and the Shade Might Surprise You

While many paint brands have chosen various shades of blue as their 2024 color of the year, Pantone has strayed from the pack. The company just announced PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz—a gentle peach that's softly nestled between pink and orange—as its 2024 color of the year.

The versatile shade lends itself to a variety of materials and textures, and can be applied across many different areas of design—all factors Pantone considers when choosing its color of the year. "The color we select to be the Pantone Color of the Year is the one we see building in importance across all areas of design," says Laurie Pressman, vice presidents of Pantone Color Institute at Pantone. "It is the color that has the ability to communicate the color message that best reflects what is happening in our global culture at a specific moment in time."

The hue is meant to evoke a sense of togetherness, while still feeling very sophisticated. Because of its complexity, Pantone's color of the year has a place in the homes of both minimalists and maximalists. "Some may take a more minimalist approach, pairing it with neutral tones, i.e., grays, camels, indigos," says Pressman, adding that maximalists may choose to use the color in unconventional ways.

When dreaming up ways to use the color in your home, look to areas such as the kitchen, bathroom, and beyond. "PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz works well on a painted wall whether in an entry, a hallway, or throughout the entire room," says Pressman. It also works well in the bathroom and kitchen as it's considered a very nurturing hue, she says.
