Nearly 900,000 Tea Bags Have Been Recalled Due to High Levels of Pesticides

If you're a tea drinker, you may want to double check your supply—East West Tea Company just recalled nearly 900,000 Yogi tea bags due to a detectable amount of pesticide residue, according to a report by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

The recall includes 16-count boxes of Organic Yogi Echinacea Immune Support tea. Consumers can identify the recalled product by the UPC code 0 76950 45010 3 or its lot number. A full list of the affected lot numbers can be found on the FDA's website.

Per the FDA, the recalled tea bags exceeded action levels, which is a recommended level of a contaminant not to exceed. While an action level is not legally binding, the FDA may take enforcement action on a case-by-case basis whether a contaminant is below, at, or above an action level.

With that being said, this recall is listed by the FDA as "Class III," meaning it is a situation in which use of, or exposure to, the product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences. To date, there have been no reported illnesses linked to the recall.
